Not all market fish is born equal. At Wild Harbour we believe in sourcing the very best nature can offer, and with this in mind we buy the majority of our market-bought fish from Newlyn, down here in Cornwall, just ten miles from our HQ. Unlike Brixham or Plymouth fish markets, which operate on a closed/online dutch auction basis (bought blindly with no chance to inspect), Newlyn fish market is open, allowing our experienced buyers to inspect each and every fish. We appreciate that our customers demand day boat quality fish everyday, regardless of the weather. To this end, our relationship with Newlyn is crucial in maintaining availability all year round, even when our own day boats aren't fishing! By offering both the best market fish and our direct landings, we have great daily selections of both fish and shellfish, bought with care and thought.

In this day and age, it is possible to source almost any species of fish at any time of year. However, to do so risks damaging delicate stocks and relying on sources further away from home, thus impacting the environment. We therefore exclusively buy fish from the UK, and work with the fish species available during that time of year.

The Cornwall Good Seafood Guide publishes a monthly list of recommended species, which aims to inform fish buyers and consumers about the changing nature of local stocks, and what is 'in-season'. We continue to work closely with them, monitoring species and fishing methods, to ensure we operate as sustainably as possible.
