Boat Description:

Atlantic Fisher 600

Which Species Do You Predominantly Target?

"Pollock, mackerel and squid. When the water is too muddy in the Winter months I use nets for red mullet"

How many years fishing and from which port?

"26 years in Newlyn and St Ives and the last three years out of Mylor, Falmouth"

What methods do you use?

"Hook and line, occasionally nets"

What hours do you fish from and to?

"I like to be on my fishing grounds at first light but most days I'm fishing for 10 - 12 hours"

What's the biggest fish you've ever caught?

"Many years ago now, when I worked aboard the Sowenna out of Newlyn, we caught a 23kg turbot which was landed in Baltimore, Ireland. Don't quote me on this but it was the port record and I believe it still is!"

Why do you fish?

"When I was a kid my Grandad took to me to spots to fish, rod and line, which I loved. I bought my own boat about 8 years ago so I could be more independent and spend more time with my family"

Do you have a most memorable fishing moment?

"Being aboard the Ben Loyal on the Northwest banks with a buoy rope in the prop in a gale force 11 and having to be towed back into port. Also on the way back from France on the Intuition when the wheel house caught on fire!"

How important is sustainable fishing in your view point?

"With hook and line I believe it is sustainable. I agree that all fish should have protection whether its MPA (Marine Protected Areas) or quotas"

Why should UK consumers eat your fish?

"Most of my fish is caught by hook and line and iced when caught - it doesn't get better than that!
