The Hayle-based Wild Harbour Fish Company has become the first fish supplier in the UK to be awarded the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) seal of approval.
The SRA is a not-for-profit association helping restaurants become more environmentally-friendly and sustainable.
All Wild Harbour fish are caught by hand off the west Cornish coast by local ‘in-shore boats’ using either rod and line or hand lines.
Line fishing is considered to be one of the most sustainable methods of fishing – any fish that are unsuitable due to size or species are simply returned to the sea unharmed, preventing controversial discards. Razor clams are dive caught and lobsters are caught using the traditional ‘pot method’.
We have been fishing sustainably for over 25 years and are now in a position where we can offer our fish directly to those customers who, like me, are concerned about the state of our oceans and fish stocks and want to make a truly sustainable choice.
