TODAY'S FRESH DAY BOAT LANDINGS
Cornwall Susustainbility Awards
We are delighted to have been given a special recognition for our continued commitment to sustainable fishing practices from Cornwall Sustainability Awards. As a business focussed on preserving the livelihood of our local in-shore day boat fisherman alongside eco-systems and protecting our environment. We feel we are in a key role to influencing, driving and delivering true sustainable seafood, throughout Cornwall and across the UK as part of our Wild, Fresh & Fair approach.
We’ve recently become a Carbon Neutral Company which we are incredibly proud off, looking forward we are continuing to develop our packaging to be even more so environmentally friendly, support our fisherman in funding for more sustainable fishing gear, and we hope to be Net Zero within the next 5 years.
Cornwall Good Seafood Guide
We have been allied with the Cornwall Good Seafood Guide since 2015 and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust since their inception. To this end, we work closely with them to ensure that the fish we sell is ‘recommended’, and that we remain active in local affairs. They have been a constant source of good information over the years, and help to inform us about the methods of fishing, availability of species and local fishing news.
“Wild Harbour does a brilliant job of guiding their customers to source the best local, sustainable seafood, and it is encouraging to see how many chefs and fish enthusiasts are embracing and accepting the natural dynamics of working with the sea and with responsible, small-scale fishermen.” – Matt Slater
APC SME Growth National & South West Regional Award
We are so proud to have received both the National & Regional South West Growth Award in 2019.
The APC SME Growth Awards were launched this year to recognise and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirt of the SME customers across the APC network. The APC believe SMEs are the backbone of the UK economy, driving economic growth and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and hard-working people up and down the country.
Nine regional winners and one national winner were selected by a panel of judges to have demonstrated the most growth, innovation and community engagement across The APC’s network of small business customers.
Seafood Cornwall & S W Handline Fisherman’s Association
Wild Harbours Sea Bass is always line-caught by day boat fisherman, you will always find a South West Handline Fisherman Association tag placed within the mouth of the fish to certify the traceability and assurance that the Sea Bass is sustainabily caught.
With the bad press Sea Bass has been receiving the SWHFA decided to highlight the ethical, and sustainable alternative to farmed or pair-trawl caught bass by introducing individual tags for each fish caught using hook and line. The SWHFA numbered tags are inserted in the gills or mouth by the fishermen and should remain in the fish until taken out by the end-user.
Sustainable Restuarant Association
The SRA is a not-for-profit association helping restaurants become more environmentally-friendly and sustainable. Our little fishmongers Wild Harbour was the very first fishmongers in the UK to be awarded the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) seal of approval.
We are recognised within the hospitality industry and beyond for our superior fish, that are caught by hand off the west Cornish coast by local ‘in-shore boats’ using either rod and line or hand lines.
from sea to kitchen
wild harbour seafood
The clear waters of the Cornish coast are home to Britain’s finest seafood and shellfish. The daily catch from local day boats lands fresh Cornish crab and lobster, magnificent line-caught sea bass in season, mackerel, pollack, sole and place. Wonderful Cornish native oysters, mussels and hand dived king scallops. But with over 40 local species, from Cornish Sole to Sardines, the truth is we never know what the tide will bring in.
